ICS London and South-East Branch - Chaiman's Report

1ST JUNE 2020 – 31ST MAY 2021

This has been a challenging year due to Covid-19 as the Government imposed restrictions on people travelling to work or travelling, attending work, or meeting face to face or even socializing. These restrictions severely impacted upon the branch, as we have been forced to reduce our activities and cancel some events.

However, London and South-East branch have managed to continue functioning through online meetings. We are indebted to Head office, Jeffrey Blum, and Jonathan Marks for their support in hosting and assisting with the online challenges of setting up and managing these meetings.

Twinning

London and South-East branch decided that they could support this initiative from the membership committee to twin with another branch and have been considering their options. Several branches seem suitable for us to consider, and London and South-East branch have been deciding who to approach, with a view to making a more formal approach.

The twinning has not diminished our support to other local branches, should they seek assistance or support.

Revision Evenings

The London and South-East branch have consistently provided revision evenings for many years. The branch has continued to maintain this support for the students. However, this year we had to deliver the revision evenings online. They were still well attended, and we were fortunate to have students joining us from overseas countries.

Seminars/Social Events

This year we were unable to deliver any seminars or social events; however, the branch is working on delivering a seminar for LISW21 in September.

City Business School (to be renamed BAYES Business School)

This event could not be delivered due to Covid-19, but we hope to restart as soon as the restrictions are lifted.

Website

Our website is being kept updated by Kaihui Ni to whom we thank and is an effective resource for students and members to read our latest news, events, and learning resources. Richard Scott has continued to offer his regular contributions and articles on leading and recent shipping matters.

Finally, I would like to thank the committee members for their support during this difficult year. The committee has a good blend of people who can offer views on many topical subjects.
